Isatou representing the Gambia in the Paralympics

TV Report | 12min

Hoping to represent The Gambia at the Paralympic Games for a second time, Isatou Nyang is training hard. The Gambian is physically disabled and sits in a wheelchair but she is also a top level athlete. At the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, Isatou Nyang became the first female athlete from The Gambia to compete. Despite her physically disability, her athletic talent is beyond doubt. But Isatou is also poor, and in Gambia welfare is hard to come by. As a disabled single mother with two children, her employment options are limited, and she has been forced to support her family through begging for years. But she continues to strive for the top: Isatou Nyang is training to compete in the 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo.
